Infant dies after last month’s fatal shooting of pregnant mother in Minneapolis
An infant who has been hospitalized since a shooting last month has now died.
Minneapolis Police said Wednesday that officers learned the child has died.
Officers responded to the area of 37th Street and Elliot Avenue at about 9:15 p.m. on July 5 for a reported shooting. There, officers found a pregnant woman suffering from a gunshot wound.
The woman was taken to a hospital and her child was delivered and placed in the NICU. However, the woman, identified as 27-year-old Leneesha Columbus, later died.

The child had been in the hospital since that time until they also died at about 12:58 a.m. Wednesday.
Zachary Victor Robinson Jr. was arrested in Illinois and charged with second-degree murder, second-degree assault and felon in possession of a gun in connection to Columbus’ death. Police said at the time that the child was believed to be both Robinson’s and Columbus’.
The department said it will continue to work with the medical examiner and attorney’s office for possible additional charges against Robinson.
