Minneapolis Police provided this image of the suspect who is believed to be connected to the homicide that happened near a parking ramp in downtown Minneapolis on Aug. 26, 2020. Police spokesperson John Elder said the man shot himself while being surveilled later that evening.
A man suspected in a homicide that happened in downtown Minneapolis Wednesday and shot himself a short while later has been identified.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner says Eddie Frank Sole Jr., 38, from Minneapolis, died of a gunshot wound to the head. The manner of death is suicide.
Sixty-one-year-old Eddie George Gordon, from Rush City, died from a gunshot wound to the head and neck around 2 p.m. that same day. Sole is considered the suspect in that homicide.
A preliminary investigation indicated that three people — two men and one woman — were in a dispute that turned physical. Sole is suspected of pulling out a gun and shooting Gordon.
Police located Sole and witnessed him shoot himself. Minneapolis police spokesperson John Elder said on Wednesday that people began livestreaming to social media that officers had shot the suspect in the head.
Elder said that information was false and police released a video later Wednesday night confirming what Elder said. The department then took that video down "out of respect for the individual."
Police are still investigating.
