61-year-old Rush City man identified as shooting victim in downtown Minneapolis homicide

On Thursday, a homicide victim who died near a downtown Minneapolis parking ramp Wednesday afternoon was identified.

According to the Hennepin County Medical Examiner, 61-year-old Eddie George Gordon, from Rush City, died from a gunshot wound to the head and neck. The time of death is listed at 2:11 p.m. on Wednesday, near Ramp A.

The suspect in the case, who has yet to be identified, shot himself on Nicollet Mall during the evening hours Wednesday. Another suspect, a woman, who has yet to be identified, has been detained to determine her level of involvement in the shooting as of Wednesday.

A preliminary investigation indicates that three people — two men and one woman — were in a dispute that turned physical. A man pulled out a gun and shot Gordon.

Police located the male suspect on foot and witnessed him shoot himself. Minneapolis police spokesperson John Elder said on Wednesday that people began to live stream to social media that officers had shot the suspect in the head. Elder said that information was false and police released a video later Wednesday night confirming what Elder said.

Police are still investigating.
