Police called to Minneapolis fire after residents reportedly refused to leave burning building
The Minneapolis Fire Department said police had to get involved in an early morning fire Wednesday after residents reportedly refused to leave the building.
Shortly before 2:40 a.m., fire crews arrived at the 2700 block of Cedar Avenue South for an apartment building that was on fire.
Flames were found in two units on the building’s first floor, and they were eventually extinguished.
According to the fire department, as they began to evacuate residents in the apartments, several refused to leave the burning building.
Because of this, Minneapolis Police were called to the scene.
Those who did evacuate the building were sheltered in a bus to stay warm as crews made sure the fire hadn’t spread to other parts of the building.
According to fire officials, no extension was found, and most residents were able to return to their apartments after the smoke was ventilated.
The Red Cross was contacted to assist one adult and an investigation into what caused the fire is still underway.
