St. Paul man arrested after barricading himself in Oakdale home

Oakdale police say a man is being held at the Washington County Jail after barricading himself inside a home for hours early Tuesday morning.

According to police, officers were called to a home on the 2800 block of Granada Avenue around 4 a.m. for a report of a disturbance.

When officers arrived, they spoke with a female who had gotten outside of the home, who told police a man had fired a handgun inside.

The man was still inside when officers arrived, and Oakdale police say he was “uncooperative” with them and then barricaded himself inside, causing members of the Washington County SWAT Team to be called in.

After trying to communicate with the barricaded man, police say the SWAT team used chemicals to bring him out. The man, identified by officers as 35-year-old Kaylin Lee Washington, eventually surrendered.

Although formal charges are still pending, Washington is being held on suspected assault charges.

Police say the Code Red Message sent to residents has since been lifted. Police were spotted by a 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS photographer clearing the area shortly after 8 a.m.
