11-year-old found dead in pond in Eden Prairie

Eden Prairie police announced that the body of an 11-year-old boy who was reported missing on Sunday was found in a pond near his home.

The boy was identified as Mohamed Mohamed.

Mohamed’s body was recovered around 9:30 p.m. after he was reported missing earlier in the day.

“It’s heartbreaking,” Mahdi Warsama, CEO of the Somali Parents Autism Network, said. “It’s also a lesson for us to make sure that we take care of the safety of children with autism within the community.”

Warsama recommends door and window locks and sensors, along with using the latest child safety technology to keep children with autism safe.

“We have GPS bracelets,” Warsama said. “We have GPS devices they can install within the clothing of the child. We encourage to use and become familiar with those technologies much as possible.”
