Stanley Cup’s Friday trip to Minnesota delayed due to tech outage
The Stanley Cup’s tour in Minnesota, which was scheduled for Friday, was delayed after it got stuck at the St. Louis, Missouri airport due to the ongoing tech outage.
It’s tradition for every player on the NHL Stanley Cup Champions to spend a day with the cup. St. Paul native Kyle Okposo of the Florida Panthers was hoping to bring the famous trophy to the Pagel Activity Center in Minnetonka but its flight from St. Louis was delayed and didn’t make it on time.
A 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS photographer was at the Pagel Activity Center when dozens of hockey fans got the news about the cup not being able to make it.
“Great gesture by him to have it here to have it available for the public, for all the youth that was here as well, so a real big bummer obviously. Really cool to have a chance to see it, so bummer for me, but I think there’s a lot of people who are more bummed than I am too,” said Erik Engebretsen, who was waiting to see the trophy.
The Stanley Cup did eventually make it to Minnesota but now another player will have it on Saturday. The arena says there may be a chance to see it at a later date if it can be scheduled.
