14-year-old dies after shooting at gas station in NE Minneapolis

A 14-year-old is dead after a shooting in Northeast Minneapolis in the early morning hours on Friday.

On Saturday morning, officials with the Hennepin County Medical Examiner identified the boy as Fa’him Laron Miller, of St. Paul.

Officers from Minneapolis were called to a gas station on the 2600 block of University Avenue Northeast around 3 a.m. on Friday on a report of a shooting.

Officials say an initial investigation indicated the victim was in an SUV with other people in the parking lot when shots were fired from a second vehicle.

The teenager was found lying on the ground outside of the SUV with life-threatening injuries. He died three hours later at the hospital.

“The death of a teenager out on the street is outrageous and totally unacceptable. The MPD will aggressively investigate this incident to its logical conclusion and do all we can to bring some sense of justice for the victim and his loved ones, but we all must work together to end this trend of youth violence,” said Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara.

A woman in her 30s was arrested at the scene and booked on an unrelated warrant. Officials are determining if and how she has a connection to the shooting.

In February, two people were shot and injured outside the same gas station. There have been no arrests in that incident.
