A deputy in Granite Falls (about 2.5 hours west of Minneapolis) shot a man Wednesday, according to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.

According to an update from the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office, the CEE-VI Drug Task Force tried to arrest a man around 3:36 p.m. near Granite Falls. The man was a fugitive from the Minnesota Department of Corrections, the Sheriff’s Office said.

During the attempted arrest, the man ran from his vehicle to a nearby cemetery. He was armed and refused to follow commands, according to authorities.

During the arrest, a member of the task force shot him.

The man is in the hospital in stable condition, the Sheriff’s Office said.

The names of the man who was shot, as well as the deputy who fired their weapon haven’t been released as of this time.

The BCA said it is responding to the shooting.

Back in April, the same five-county task force was trying to serve a warrant in Granite Falls, and agent Jason Hay was shot in the torso by William Edward Schindler. Hay survived the shooting. After a nearly two-hour standoff, Schindler surrendered and was arrested. As previously reported by 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS, he received a 17 1/2-year prison sentence in July for the shooting.
