2 injured during overnight explosion in Blaine apartment

Blaine police say an overnight explosion in an apartment building caused two people to be hospitalized for their injuries.
According to Blaine police, officers were called to the Cedar Green Apartments on the 1100 block of 116th Avenue Northeast for a report of a man with severe injuries to his hands at around 1 a.m. Friday. Other callers said they had heard a loud explosion.
Officers found a man with “traumatic injuries” to both of his hands, and another resident who was inside the apartment where the explosion happened had injuries on her face.
Police say a child was also in the apartment where the explosion happened but wasn’t injured.
As of this time, no other details regarding the two people who were injured have been released.

The lone apartment damaged by the explosion is on the fifth floor of the building, police say. They add there is no danger to the public.
As of this time, the cause of the explosion – which caused a bedroom window to be blown out – is still being investigated. However, investigators say they found multiple household chemicals which appeared to have contributed to the explosion.
Police told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS they do not believe the explosion is suspicious in nature.
It is not clear at this point if anyone will face charges.
Members of the Minneapolis Bomb Squad, the FBI and the ATF are helping with the investigation.
