Baby of woman fatally shot in Lakeville parking lot dies
The infant son of the woman who was fatally shot in an Amazon warehouse parking lot in Lakeville last week has died.
Lakeville police say they were informed that Kyla O’Neal’s newborn died late Tuesday.
O’Neal, who was pregnant at the time, was found with a gunshot wound to her neck outside the Amazon Fulfillment Center warehouse on 217th Street West on Jan. 8. She died at a hospital but medical personnel were able to deliver her son — who was due in a few days — and placed him on a ventilator. After several days, he died.
“This is a very unfortunate development and certainly adds another layer to an already tragic incident,” Lakeville Police Chief Brad Paulson said in a statement to 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS.

O’Neal’s significant other and father of the infant, 32-year-old Donte McCray, is currently charged with second-degree intentional murder in O’Neal’s death.
Paulson confirmed that his department is working with the Dakota County Attorney’s Office to consider amending the charges against McCray with the news that O’Neal’s son has also died.
Court documents state McCray and O’Neal had been arguing earlier on the day of the shooting because she found out he’d had a child with another woman while she was pregnant and O’Neal “didn’t want to be bothered with him.”
McCray later admitted to officers that he was angry because O’Neal’s vehicle bumped into him in the Amazon Fulfillment Center warehouse parking lot so he pointed his gun at her and fired, although he claimed he didn’t know there was still a round in the chamber, the complaint states.
He has an initial court appearance scheduled for Thursday.
