Walz discusses higher education Thursday, Jensen endorsed by Minn. Police & Peace Officers Association

Gov. Tim Walz and Republican challenger Dr. Scott Jensen held separate events in the state Thursday.

Minnesota’s Republican gubernatorial candidate Dr. Scott Jensen has announced he’s been endorsed by the state’s Police and Peace Officers Association (MPPOA).

Jensen made the announcement Thursday morning outside the Third Precinct in Minneapolis.

The association represents public safety workers throughout the state.

The following statement was issued in a news release sent out Thursday announcing the endorsement:

“There is only one candidate for governor that police trust to have their backs, and that is Dr. Scott Jensen. Minnesota has experienced out of control lawlessness under Tim Walz, and quite frankly, we’ve had enough. However, Dr. Jensen has put forward sensible proposals to restore safety to our communities and that’s why we’re supporting him for Governor.”

Jensen also issued a statement on the endorsement:

“Tim Walz has failed every Minnesotan in fulfilling the most important job of an elected official: ensuring public safety. The men and women who protect our communities daily understand this, and that’s why they are supporting my candidacy. I’m honored to have the endorsement of police officers across our state and when we win on Nov. 8th, we’ll immediately work together to bring safe streets back to our neighborhoods.”

Meanwhile, Walz visited Inver Hills Community College Thursday afternoon, where he discussed higher education in Minnesota.

The events come one day after a new poll showed a lead held by Walz over Jensen narrowing. According to the latest KSTP/SurveyUSA poll, Walz currently has a 10-point lead, 50% to 40%. Another 4% prefer another candidate and 7% remain undecided.
