Barron County: Car hits train, impairment suspected
The Wisconsin State Patrol is investigating after a car struck a train in Barron County on Monday morning.
Just before noon, a Toyota Rav4 was headed south on 23rd Street approaching Highway 8 when it struck the side of an eastbound train.
The Rav4 rolled over as a result of the impact and came to rest on its roof, authorities say.
A responding Trooper noticed that the driver, 34-year-old Richard Givens of Sarona, Wi, displayed signs of impairment.
He has since been charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence while causing injury.
Givens and his passenger, a 31-year-old woman from Luck, Wi, escaped with non-life threatening injuries but were both transported to area hospitals.
The crash is under investigation by the Wisconsin State Patrol.
