School, community hold car wash fundraiser for student paralyzed from football injury

Jefferson High School students, families and coaches held a car wash fundraiser for Ethan Glynn on Sunday in Bloomington, after a football injury left him paralyzed from the shoulders down.

Cars lined up by the dozens at the Jefferson High School parking lot, keeping the area full and the washers busy.

“We’re doing a carwash to raise money for our friend that got paralyzed in a football game,” Logan Peterson, Glynn’s friend, said.

A couple of weeks ago, Glynn was playing in a football game at Jefferson High School when he was injured while going in for a tackle during the game. It left him paralyzed from the shoulders down.

“It was pretty hard. It sucks happening to anybody, but especially because he’s our best friend. It’s tough,” Tyler McGovern, said.

Ethan was an all-around athlete. He played football, baseball and hockey at the high school.

Coaches, family, friends and former Jefferson High School students came out to the car wash to pitch in.

“Everyone loves Ethan. The family is the nicest group of people that you can ever meet,” Michelle Masera, the fundraiser organizer, said.

Her son played sports with Glynn from a young age. They were on a travel baseball team together this past summer.

“Caden took it hard. I think all the kids took it hard. In fact, I know they did,” she said. “It’s like it’s your own kid, and it’s hard.”

But the number 8 was visible around every corner of the car wash, making Ethan’s presence known.

Through every step of recovery, Ethan has a village right behind him.

“He is a fighter. He’s not giving up. We’re not giving up. We all are in this together,” Masera said.

A GoFundMe has also been created to also help Glynn’s family during his recovery.
