5 students cited for assault at St. Cloud high school

Authorities say five high school students have been cited after an assault at a St. Cloud high school last week.

The St. Cloud Police Department says a school resource officer and other school administration at Apollo High School learned a 15-year-old student had reportedly been assaulted at around 2 p.m. on June 2.

Officials determined the boy had gone to the bathroom in order to settle a disagreement with another 15-year-old boy, police say. When the victim got there, the other boy and four friends were waiting and started punching and kicking the victim.

Police say the victim was injured but didn’t require medical attention.

All of the parties involved are students at the school.

Police said Wednesday the five students were cited for fifth-degree assault, and the school district is also taking action with the students, although it wasn’t immediately clear what that action was.

The district sent the following statement to 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS:

“St. Cloud Area School District 742 is committed to ensuring a safe and secure learning environment for all of our students. When this incident occurred, administration responded promptly, and the students were immediately removed. We are responding to this incidence of violence to the fullest extent and in accordance with our Code of Conduct.“
