A man has been charged after his 10-year-old son was fatally shot by the victim’s brother last month in Minneapolis.
Brandon Lee Mayberry, 31, is charged via warrant with second-degree manslaughter.
Police found Mayberry’s 10-year-old son at a Minneapolis apartment on April 15, suffering from a gunshot wound to his chest. The boy later died at a hospital.

According to a criminal complaint, the boy’s 12-year-old brother told officers at the apartment that he’d accidentally shot his brother after he found his father’s gun.
The 12-year-old said he’d sat on a pillow in Mayberry’s bedroom and felt something under the pillow. Underneath it, he found a gun that was partially holstered.
The boy was carrying the gun to the living room when he kicked over a dog’s water dish and the gun slipped from his hands. As he tried to catch it, the boy said he accidentally hit the trigger and his brother was hit, the complaint states.
Officers found eight guns in the apartment, including several that were loaded and others that had unsecured ammunition in the apartment, the complaint states.
A court date hasn’t yet been set for Mayberry. If convicted, he could face up to 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.
