Police investigate fatal shooting in south Minneapolis, 2 potential suspects detained

The Minneapolis Police Department said two people were detained after a shooting left one man dead in south Minneapolis.

A spokesperson for the Minneapolis Police Department said officers responded to reports of a man with a gun near the intersection of East 42nd Street and Portland Avenue at about 11:55 a.m. Police later received reports of a shot fired in the area.

Shortly afterward, an adult male shooting victim in his late 20s was taken to the hospital from the intersection of East 41st Street and Park Avenue South, about four blocks from the location of the initial call. He reportedly died at the hospital.

Responding officers report they saw two potential suspects go inside a home near the area of the shooting. Police then set up a perimeter and crisis negotiators made contact with the people inside.

A spokesperson for the Minneapolis Police Department said some neighbors in the area were asked to move to a safer location as negotiators got suspects to come out of the home.

The two potential suspects, a man and a woman, reportedly exited the home with their hands up and were taken into custody at about 2:30 p.m.

The two potential suspects have not yet been identified. Police said no other occupants were in the home at the time.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office will identify the victim after family have been notified and a cause of death has been determined.

This is the 25th death investigated as a homicide in Minneapolis in the year 2022.
