St. Paul Public School Board to review mask mandate at Tuesday’s meeting

Members of the St. Paul Public School Board will review the district’s mask mandate once again according to Tuesday’s meeting agenda.
The board had previously said it wouldn’t take the policy up again this school year.
Last month, board members voted to keep the mask mandate in place by a vote of 3-2.

The vote rejected a new rule that would have allowed students and staff to go without masks as long as COVID-19 transmission levels in Ramsey County were low. The current mandate requires all students, staff and visitors to wear face coverings in district buildings.

Monday, the CDC reported Ramsey County was one of 19 counties in the state to have a substantial spread for transmission levels. The agency says five counties in the state have low transmission, and five have a high level.

Most government entities in St. Paul have already dropped mask mandates.
As previously reported, the city of St. Paul lifted mask mandates for city-managed buildings on March 10, two weeks after the mask mandate for businesses ended on Feb. 24.

Tuesday’s meeting is scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m. CLICK HERE for a list of agenda items.
According to the school district, the mask resolution discussion is scheduled to start at about 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, and add the meeting won’t be recorded or live streamed. Board members will then vote to revise the mask resolution.
The meeting will be held at 360 Colborne Street.
