Twins set Opening Day roster

The Minnesota Twins were supposed to open their season Thursday afternoon at Target Field. That’s been delayed until Friday but we now know who will be on the roster for that game.

After the Twins swung a trade with San Diego that sent All-Star reliever Taylor Rogers to the Padres, the Twins officially set their 28-man roster.

The team placed reliever Cody Stashak on the 10-day injured list with right biceps tendinitis, optioned pitcher Griffin Jax to Triple-A St. Paul and reassigned outfielder Kyle Garlick to Triple-A. Garlick seemed to be the winner of the fourth outfielder spot after Brent Rooker was traded with Rogers but, instead, the Twins recalled Gilberto Celestino to fill that spot. Celestino had been optioned to St. Paul earlier during spring training.

That means the Twins will open the season with 16 pitchers, two catchers, six infielders and four outfielders on the major-league roster.

In total, the roster includes 13 players who are set to make their Twins debuts, including top pitching prospects Jhoan Duran and Josh Winder, who are expected to pitch out of the bullpen when they make their MLB debuts.
