Police say they are investigating a fatal stabbing in Champlin.

Champlin police say they were called to the area of Thousand Pines Entry around 9:30 p.m. Monday for a report of a woman covered in blood lying in the yard of a home. The report indicated she wasn’t breathing.

Officers arrived and began life-saving efforts, however, they weren’t able to save her.

Officers found the suspect had left the area, and about two hours later, they found the suspect’s abandoned vehicle in the area of 101st and Winnetka avenues in Brooklyn Park.

Despite using K-9 searches and air support from the Minnesota State Patrol, the suspect wasn’t initially found.

In an update Tuesday, police reported that the suspect who was taken into custody in Fargo, North Dakota, was the victim’s husband, 45-year-old James Nyonteh.

In the update, police also identified the woman as 35-year-old Peachu Yates.

“Our deepest sympathies go out to the family and friends of the victim,” the department wrote in a statement posted to social media.

Champlin police say the general public isn’t believed to be in danger as a result of the incident.

Multiple agencies responded to the scene to help with the search.
