13-year-old dead, mother injured following domestic incident in Olivia

A 13-year-old boy was killed Thursday morning, and his mother was injured following a stabbing incident in Olivia, 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS has learned.
According to the Olivia Police Department, officers responded to a call of a domestic incident on Lincoln Ave in the town this morning. Law enforcement arrived and found the 13-year-old with a stab wound, and he later died after being transported to Olivia Hospital & Clinic.
The victim’s mother was also injured in the domestic incident. According to a press release, she was transported to the hospital and is recovering from non-life-threatening injuries.
Police say one suspect, known to the victims, is in custody and will be booked into the Renville County Jail.
The Olivia Police Department says the deceased was transported to the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy, and his name will be released once family members have been notified.
According to the press release, the Renville County Sheriff’s Office and Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension are assisting with the investigation.
