It’s tournament time. And while we follow the wins and losses closely, true success is measured in a different way.
An incredible act of sportsmanship happened Friday in a consolation bracket game at the National Christian College Athletic Association Women’s Basketball Championship.
The University of Northwestern, St. Paul and Columbia International University, South Carolina were playing.
University of Northwestern senior captain Brooklyn Dekam made an incredible comeback. She injured her knee before the season, 86 points shy of reaching the 1,000 point milestone for her career.
Brooklyn didn’t play all year.
Before the game, both teams agreed Brooklyn would start and get a chance to score the last points of her phenomenal career.
After she scored her 916th point, Brooklyn hugged everyone and headed for the bench, where she watched every game this season.
Northwestern won the game, but the score didn’t matter. The only thing that will be remembered is the sportsmanship that was displayed.
