1st-year Augsburg football coach adjusts to MIAC’s fall postponement

After Augsburg hired Derrin Lamker back in December, he immediately began preparing for the fall – his first season as head coach of Auggies football. But, as has happened to so many the last six months, everything changed.

On Tuesday, the MIAC announced most fall sports – including football – will be postponed at least until spring 2021.

The decision delays Lamker’s debut as his alma mater’s head coach, but he’s preferring to look for positives in the situation.

Lamker quarterbacked the Auggies to a MIAC Championship in his college days, graduating in 1997 as a two-time All-MIAC honoree. He was inducted into the Augsburg Athletic Hall of Fame in 2018. He also played basketball and baseball.

He spent four years as an assistant coach with Augsburg after college, then moved to coaching roles at Robbinsdale Armstrong, Osseo and Edina high schools. He guided Osseo to the Class 6A state title in 2015, earning state Coach of the Year honors.
