Van hits pedestrian, ends up in Lake Harriet; 2 taken to hospital
Two people were taken to a hospital Thursday afternoon after a minivan hit a pedestrian and ended up in Lake Harriet.
According to the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office, the minivan left the road shortly after 4:30 p.m. and hit a pedestrian on a walking path before driving about 20 feet into the lake in Minneapolis. The van stopped in three to four feet of water.
Hennepin County Water Patrol and Minneapolis Park Police responded to the incident.
Both the driver of the van and the pedestrian were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the sheriff’s office.
It’s unclear why the van left the road at this time but authorities say the driver may have had a medical incident.
