Man sentenced for Red Wing shooting

A man was sentenced Wednesday for a shooting last year in Red Wing.

Court records show 20-year-old John Charles Roberts was sentenced to three years (36 months) at the St. Cloud Correctional Facility and given credit for nearly one full year of time served. It comes after he pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon last month, and several other charges of attempted murder and assault were dismissed.

Red Wing shooting suspect charged with attempted murder, assault

Red Wing police officers were called around 2:45 a.m. on May 21, 2019, on a report of a man shot in the neck near Launa Avenue and Burton Street. There, officers found two men, one of whom had been shot. The victim appeared to have a bullet wound in the side of his neck but was still walking and talking like normal.

Police arrested Roberts later that same day. He is believed to have fired multiple shots from an upstairs front window at his Twin Bluff Road residence while the victim was in a vehicle in the home’s driveway.
