Man arrested with $500K of cocaine in car

A man was arrested last week after he tried to smuggle cocaine in the U.S. with his wife and infant son in the car, Border Patrol officials said.

KGTV reports agents were patrolling Interstate 5 Thursday when they saw a suspicious vehicle speed past them at about 85 mph while driving erratically.

The agents followed the vehicle into San Clemente where it stopped at a shopping center.

Officials confronted the man and requested to search his vehicle. Inside, officials said they found a duffel bag with 20 brick-shaped packages of cocaine. U.S. Customs and Border Protection estimated the street value to be about $512,500.

The man's wife and son were found about a quarter-mile away by agents. They were released, but the man was arrested and turned over to DEA custody in Orange County.
