A ‘murder’ hornet has been caught and trapped in Washington State for the first time.
The hornet, whose official name is the Asian Giant Hornet, was caught in a bottle trap that was placed by the state Department of Agriculture at the site where officials had previously found a dead queen hornet.
The success of the capture means that more traps can be set up where DOA officials will help try and keep the hornets alive so they can put tags on them and track them back to the nest.
