It’s the last day of national nurses week and the birthday of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing.

On Tuesday night in Burnsville, the community turned out to honor nurses and other health care workers with a parade.

It started and ended at M Health Fairview Ridges Hospital.

5 EYEWITNESS NEWS has reported on local nurses working on the front lines during the pandemic and making personal sacrifices, saving lives and providing comfort in the last moments of life.

A nurse shared a prayer that said:

"Let me dedicate my life today, in the care of those who come my way. Let me touch each one with a healing hand and the gentle art for which I stand and then tonight when the day is done. Let me rest in peace if I’ve helped just one."
