Police have made an arrest in connection to a fatal shooting Tuesday night in St. Paul.

The city says a 911 caller reported people with guns outside of their home on the 600 block of Preble Street — near the border of the Dayton’s Bluff and Payne-Phalen neighborhoods — shortly after 10 p.m. and within 30 seconds, the caller said shots were fired.

A nearby St. Paul officer also heard the shots and went to the area while calling for backup.

Responders found a man dead at the scene. The city did not provide any details about the man.

The Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office will identify the man and provide information about his death.

Wednesday morning, police announced that officers arrested a 20-year-old from St. Paul on suspicion of murder in connection to the shooting. However, formal charges haven’t yet been filed.

The department is still investigating and anyone with information about this incident is asked to call 651-266-5650.

It’s the city’s 32nd homicide of the year, according to police.
