Quiet, cold weather to start the new year
Here’s your Wednesday afternoon forecast for January 1, 2025 from Minnesota’s Weather Authority and Meteorologist Matt Serwe.
Happy New Year! We just finished our warmest year on record in the Twin Cities, and those records go back to the 1870s.
2025 will start with cooler than average temperatures for the first half of the month. Highs stay around 20° today and tomorrow, and then fall into the 10s by Friday. Northwest winds push wind chills below zero in the Twin Cities, and potentially as cold as -20° to -25° outstate.
There will be flurries from time to time this afternoon. Nothing sticks. Those end this evening as the clouds break apart a little more. We finally get to see more sun Thursday through Saturday! There are no major systems on the horizon in Minnesota or Wisconsin. You might see flurries return early next week, but once again, nothing sticks.
