Edina’s Fullerton wins second straight state tennis championship

Boys State Tennis – Individuals Matthew Fullerton (Edina) Wins Second State Title

Edina’s Matthew Fullerton topped his Hornets teammate Nolan Ranger 2-6, 6-3, 3-1 to claim his second straight Class 2A Boys’ State Tennis singles title Friday in Minneapolis.

Ranger injured his back during the match and was forced to withdraw in the third set.

Kai Chen and Andrew Richardson of the Blake School defeated Mahtomedi’s team of Jack Allaben and Brandon Pham to win the doubles championship 4-6, 6-1, 6-4.

Rochester Lourdes senior Marjan Veldic won the Class 1A singles title with St. Paul Academy’s Leo Benson and Maik Nguyen claiming the Class 1A doubles championship.
