Some collect coins, stamps and baseball cards, but one Minnesota man has combined a love for candy and politics into his passion.
Hamline University political science Professor David Schultz owns a presidential PEZ collection.
"There is a lighter side to politics, there’s a lighter side that we seemed to have lost right now and we do need that opportunity to laugh," Schultz said.
Five years ago, Schultz received a presidential PEZ from a former student and he now owns every presidential PEZ the company has released.
"I thought, given what I teach, I got to buy them all," Schultz said.
Schultz said his collection is worth around $500 but he considers it priceless.
"I give a lot of talks, many community talks in the year," Schultz said. "Sometimes you can see the divide right down the room. You can see the Republicans, Democrats, liberals, conservatives, Trump, non-Trump, like that. Almost always when I start to say, ‘Guess what? I got a presidential PEZ collection,’ almost everybody cracks a smile."
