State Fair announces 2020 fine arts competition

The Minnesota State Fair says "the show most go on," in terms of its annual fine arts competition.

The fair said on its website that participation is open to all living residents in the state, and each participant may submit one work for consideration. In 2019, a total of 2,747 pieces were submitted, and 354 works of art were accepted.

The categories for entries are as follows:

  • Class 1 – Oil/Acrylic/Mixed Media
  • Class 2 – Sculpture
  • Class 3 – Watercolor/Gouache/Casein/Tempera
  • Class 4 – Drawings/Pastel
  • Class 5 – Prints
  • Class 6 – Ceramics/Glass
  • Class 7 – Textiles/Fiber
  • Class 8 – Photography

Jurors will review submitted digital images to determine which works will be in the final exhibition. The jury will consist of recognized individuals in their respective media, according to the State Fair. This year there will only be one phase of adjudication. Works accepted from the online jury process will be displayed, as there will not be a second in-person phase.

Registration began on April 6 for this year’s contest. To compete in the Fine Arts Show, registration is required by no later than 4:30 p.m. on July 27.
