U of M law school introduces scholarship in George Floyd’s name
A scholarship in George Floyd’s name has been introduced through the University of Minnesota.
The University of Minnesota Law School made the announcement Monday, stating Catlan M. McCurdy, class of 2011, and Sanjiv P. Laud, class of 2012, donated to the scholarship and it received an equal match from the law school.
The purpose of the George Floyd Memorial Scholarship in Law is to "provide critical financial support, allowing students of color, and Black or African-American students in particular, to pursue careers in the law and achieve their dreams," the university stated.
"Mr. Floyd’s killing was a tragic reminder of the inequity and injustice facing Black Americans today, despite the decades that have passed since the civil rights movement,” McCurdy and Laud said in a joint statement.
Both local universities and out-of-state universities have recently created scholarship funds in Floyd’s name.
