Chemical irritants deployed as demonstrators protest death of George Floyd at 3rd Precinct in Minneapolis

Chemical irritants were deployed Tuesday evening as demonstrators protested the death of George Floyd at the Third Precinct in Minneapolis, according to a KSTP reporter at the scene.

Floyd died Monday while being detained by four police officers in south Minneapolis. Those officers have since been fired.

Another reporter at the scene said there was damage to the precinct that included smashed windows and graffiti on police vehicles.

Protesters also gathered at 38th Street and Chicago Avenue, the site where the incident occurred.

A KSTP crew in Chopper 5 estimated thousands were in attendance at the protest.

Some protesters chanted "I can’t breathe, I can’t breathe," which referenced what Floyd was saying in video footage of the incident.

Late Tuesday night, protesters gathered in Oakdale outside the home of one of the officers involved in Floyd’s death.
