Gov. Walz extends peacetime emergency

Monday, Gov. Tim Walz extended the state’s COVID-19 peacetime emergency.

The move was expected as lawmakers convened for the seventh special session of the year with a goal of passing an economic relief package.

"As Minnesota receives its first shipment of the vaccine, there is hope on the horizon. But we need to remain vigilant until we put the threat of COVID-19 behind us," Gov. Tim Walz said. "The Peacetime Emergency gives us the tools to keep Minnesotans healthy and deliver the vaccine in a way that is quick, equitable, and safe."

The governor’s office said 48 states remain in a state of emergency.
