Trump, Biden surrogates bring campaign messages to Minnesota

The campaigns for the Democratic and Republican presidential nominees were both in Minnesota on Wednesday.

Former Second Lady Jill Biden visited an elementary school in Prior Lake on behalf of her husband, Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden. At night, Donald Trump Jr. campaigned for his father in Duluth at a rally that was open to the public.

On what is the second day of school for many students, Jill Biden toured Jeffers Pond Elementary School with Gov. Tim Walz and Sen. Amy Klobuchar. During the Democratic National Convention, she made education a focus — she is a former educator who holds a doctorate in education.

Doors opened for the Trump campaign event at 4 p.m. ahead of the scheduled 5 p.m. start for the rally at the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center.

Biden, Trump to battle for Minnesota

President Donald Trump has said he plans to make Minnesota a priority, as his campaign sees the state that narrowly went for Hillary Clinton in 2016 as a potential toss-up in 2020.

"We’re going to focus very hard on Minnesota," President Donald Trump told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS in an exclusive interview in Mankato on Aug. 17. "We’ve done so much for Minnesota. I think we’re going to win."
