Secretary of state, city of Minneapolis encourages voters to sign up for mail-in ballots for 2020 elections

To reduce contact at polling places during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Minnesota’s secretary of state and Minneapolis’s city government are recommending all voters cast their ballots by mail this year, according to a news release.
"We need to treat the upcoming statewide elections as a public health issue," said Secretary Simon. "To slow the spread of COVID-19 we need to reduce large gatherings, including at polling places. I’m challenging all eligible Minnesota voters to cast their vote from the safety of their home. In the face of this pandemic, it is the right thing to do to protect Minnesotans who are most at risk – and the people who care for them. Fortunately, it’s very easy to do."
Voters are encouraged to sign up for early voting for the August primary and November general elections. All ballots will arrive about six weeks before the election and include postage-paid return envelopes.
All Minnesota voters are eligible to vote by mail. It’s recommended to submit ballot applications no later than 10 days prior to an election so that voters have enough time to return them.
