Second Congressional District candidates continue on trail on eve of Election Day

The race for Minnesota’s Second Congressional District has been unlike any other race in the state.

There was the death of a third-party candidate in September, which led the Minnesota Secretary of State to move the race to a special election in February before legal challenges eventually moved the election back to Tuesday.

As the sun went down in Prior Lake on Monday evening, Democratic incumbent Rep. Angie Craig used the last light to make one last campaign stop on Election Day eve.

"We feel good but we have to run through the finish line," Craig said.

"We stopped to grab takeout in between events and I found an undecided voter," she said. "I was 20 minutes late to my next event trying to convince him to vote for me."

"Emotions get high, emotions get low, you just got to remain focused," said Republican candidate Tyler Kistner.

Kistner spent part of Monday waiting in line to vote at Prior Lake City Hall with his daughter.

"Everything is feeling good," he said. "You could see through the weekend, into today and tomorrow. The momentum is definitely building and on our side. There’s a lot of energy behind the Republican Party."

Kistner and Craig appear on the ballot along with the name of the Legal Marijuana Now Party candidate, Adam Weeks, who died in September.

Paula Overby has picked up running for Weeks as the Legal Marijuana Now Party candidate.

Overby’s website and Facebook page do not show any appearances on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Kistner will start Election Day in Lakeville at Interstate 35W and County Road 46 to encourage voters to make it to the polls.

Craig will visit all six counties in the district on Tuesday, starting the morning at a coffee shop on Second Street West in Wabasha.
