David Osmek elected new Minnesota Senate president

Sen. David Osmek (R-Mound) was chosen by his colleagues Thursday as the new Senate president.

Osmek, who was first elected in 2012, lists transportation, budget and government operations as his primary legislative concerns.

"I’m honored to have earned the support of my colleagues and will strive to conduct legislative business smoothly, effectively, and with respect for the tradition and decorum of the Senate," Osmek said in a statement. "As President, I will ensure the minority voice is heard in our chamber."
