At Issue: Nov. 8 — Local election races with republicans continuing Senate majority, DFL control the House

Minnesota and its 10 electoral votes helped moved Democrat Joe Biden from "former Vice President" to "President-elect." Biden, the projected winner of the White House, won Minnesota — and it largely rested on places where President Donald Trump performed well four years ago in his contest against Hillary Clinton.

This week on "At Issue," we also take a look at the other races atop the ticket, from DFL Sen. Tina Smith solidifying her seat to Republican Congresswoman-elect Michelle Fischbach upending a longtime Democrat’s run.

The Minnesota Legislature will look different, but just slightly. Republicans will continue their majority in the Senate and the DFL will stay in control of the House, but both parties lost seats and will enter the January session as the only divided state legislature in the country (again).

Plus, a look at the life of former Congressman Jim Ramstad, a moderate Republican who represented the west metro until 2008. He sadly passed away this week.

We’re joined by a special guest this week: Former Secretary of State Joan Anderson Growe, who helped introduce the "I Voted" sticker being posted all across social media platforms. But Growe also was integral in eliminating barriers for Minnesota’s voters, from same-day voter registration to mail-in ballots. Her book, "Turnout," is a must-read for Minnesota political history buffs.
