He’s one brave little boy with a big heart. Liam Young had a life-threatening infection when he was only a few years old. It forced his fingers and legs to be amputated because of the damage.
A few encouraging gifts from his dad’s co-workers made all the difference.
"When he received a John Deere tractor, he was just so excited. It was the coolest gift in the world to him," Chris Young, Liam’s father, said.
So now, years after the amputations, Young’s family works to make all hospital visits as positive as they can – even when he’s getting new prosthetics. They make that possible by cheering up other children in the hospital with more John Deere toys.
"He’s always excited to give toys at the hospital. He’s probably one of the (only) kids I know that gets excited to go to the hospital because most of his care team is like family to us," Young said.
Altogether, they’ve donated more than 400 toys to children throughout the Midwest.
"The reason I do it is I just see how happy it made Liam when he was in the hospital. And if we can do that for one other kid, our goal is made," Young said. "That’s the main thing: kids go through a lot. Whatever we can do, big or small, it’s worth it."
