Victim, suspect in fatal Coon Rapids shooting identified

Authorities have identified the victim and suspect in a fatal Coon Rapids shooting that occurred on Monday.

According to the Anoka County Sheriff's Office, the shooting happened in the parking lot of Cub Foods on the 2000 block of Northdale Boulevard just after 4:30 p.m. There, officers found a man lying in the parking lot. Lifesaving efforts were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead at the scene. A man was arrested near the scene.

Authorities investigating fatal shooting in Coon Rapids

The sheriff's office said 19-year-old Staveonte El Brown, of Coon Rapids, was the victim of the shooting.

The suspect was identified as 19-year-old Vaughn Jarod Coklas, of Andover.

The shooting remains under investigation and no formal charges had been filed as of Tuesday morning.
