Police investigating homicide in St. Paul
A woman was shot and killed in St. Paul early Thursday morning, according to the St. Paul Police Department.
At around 3:30 a.m., officers responded to a 911 call alerting them about shots fired on the 800 block of Cook Avenue East.
When officers arrived on the scene, they located a woman lying in the streets suffering from an apparent gunshot wound and immediately rendered aid.
The St. Paul fire medics also responded and pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
Officers cordoned off the scene to protect any evidence in the area and the police canine unit attempted to track the suspect or suspects.
According to police, no arrests have been made, and investigators are asking anyone with information to call 651-266-5650.
The Ramsey County medical examiner will conduct an autopsy to positively identify the victim and determine the exact cause of death.
This incident marks the 23rd homicide to occur in St. Paul in 2020. As of this time last year, there were 15 homicides in the city, according to police.
Shots fired have also increased 130% from last year, police say.
