Authorities have identified the man who died Monday following an altercation at St. Paul parking ramp.

The St. Paul Police department on Wednesday identified the man as 52-year-old Andre Lamont Peterson.

During a press conference Tuesday, St. Paul police said Peterson allegedly tried to rob a 49-year-old man, who then fought back.

Witnesses confirmed to police that the 52-year-old intimated a handgun to the victim as he attempted to assault him. However, no firearm was found at the scene.

The victim was assisted by his co-workers who work at a nearby church in holding down Peterson until police arrived at the scene on the 500 block of Wabasha Street around 7 p.m. Monday. Peterson was found unconscious and not breathing. He was taken to Regions Hospital, where he later died.

The cause and manner of Peterson's death have not yet been determined by the medical examiner.
