Police: 3-year-old believed to be person who fatally shot 2-year-old brother in Brooklyn Park

A 3-year-old boy is believed to be the person who fatally shot his 2-year-old brother in Brooklyn Park last week.

Brooklyn Park Police confirmed the news to KSTP on Monday, adding that the boys’ mother and grandmother along with the mother’s boyfriend will be charged in connection to the shooting. While the exact charges are still unclear, the mother and grandmother were arrested for covering up the crime while Keyshawn Lemont Cosey-Gray was arrested on suspicion of child endangerment.

2-year-old victim in Brooklyn Park shooting dies

The 2-year-old was shot Thursday morning at an apartment on the 5800 block of 73rd Avenue. Police said the boy died Saturday.

The boys’ mother, 20-year-old Osheonia Nypre Hodges, and grandmother, 57-year-old Sherrillyn Kay Mosley, were arrested Friday afternoon and police asked for the public’s help in finding 20-year-old Keyshawn Lemont Cosey-Gray. Hodges and Mosley were then released "so they could say their final goodbyes" to the 2-year-old, police said. It also allowed Hodges to sign off on making the 2-year-old’s organs available for donation. Cosey-Gray surrendered to police on Saturday and was also released ahead of charges.

Mother, grandmother arrested after 2-year-old shot in Brooklyn Park; police searching for man

"They will get charged. I just felt like on the humanity side … it seemed like the right thing to do," Brooklyn Park Deputy Police Chief Mark Bruley said.

Charges are expected in the coming days.
