A man has died days after he was assaulted in Minneapolis this past weekend.
Minneapolis Police spokesman John Elder said officers were told an assault victim was being taken to North Memorial Medical Center at about 2:57 a.m. on Saturday.
Officers went to the hospital, spoke with the people who'd transported the victim and then learned from doctors that the victim was in very critical condition. Police learned on Monday that the victim had died.
Elder said a preliminary investigation indicates the man, who's believed to be in his 20s, was struck by someone and knocked to the ground after a disagreement became physical in the 2000 block of Lowry Avenue North.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office will release the victim's name and cause of death at a later time.
It's the 50th homicide of the year in Minneapolis, up from 42 at this point last year. Elder said 42 of this year's homicides have involved firearms.
