Former St. Thomas student pleads guilty to making fake bomb threat

A former University of St. Thomas student has pleaded guilty to making a fake bomb threat at the university.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office said 21-year-old Ray Ghansham Persaud entered the plea Tuesday morning.

According to court documents and his guilty plea, Persaud called the university’s main switchboard and falsely stated that there was a bomb on the St. Paul campus on three separate occasions: April 17, 2019, Aug. 20, 2019 and Sept. 17, 2019.

Persaud admitted that on the dates he called in the threats he’d failed to complete his homework and wasn’t prepared for class.

According to the attorney’s office, Persaud pleaded guilty to the Sept. 17, 2019 charge and the attorney’s office will ask the court to dismiss the other two charges at his sentencing.

According to court records, the plea calls for a sentencing of 18 to 24 months.
