Churches in Minnesota change worship services because of coronavirus outbreak

The coronavirus outbreak is having an impact on churches across Minnesota.

Last week the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis sent out new guidelines for clergy during the outbreak.

The Rev. John Ubel spoke about the outbreak Sunday during Mass at the Cathedral of Saint Paul.

"The archdiocese has suggested some protocols for parishes, and we are happy to implement those here at the Cathedral," Ubel said. "We certainly pray for all those affected, as well all those who are fearful of the coronavirus."

The cathedral is temporarily suspending handshaking during the sign of peace, those giving out Holy Communion will use hand sanitizer right before that part of Mass, and holy water was removed by the doors of the Cathedral.

Some churches are not using a common cup to give out wine during Holy Communion, and others are streaming worship services online so members are able to watch from home.
