Previous Experience

Callan anchors the Saturday evening and late newscasts and is a general assignment reporter during the week. She joined KSTP 5 Eyewitness News in April 2018. Before that, she was the weekend evening anchor and a reporter at WIVB in Buffalo, NY. She also previously worked as an anchor-reporter at WCYB in the Tri-Cities TN/VA and as a freelance reporter for WBNG in Binghamton, NY. Callan got her start in news as a reporter, producer and host at WAER, the NPR affiliate in Syracuse, NY.  She also interned at stations in Albany, NY and Philadelphia.

Awards

Callan has worked on a number of memorable stories during her time in the Twin Cities, including contributing to KSTP’s Alfred I. duPont-Columbia award and Edward R. Murrow award-winning coverage of George Floyd’s murder and aftermath. She is also Emmy-nominated for her coverage of Jayme Closs’ disappearance and escape from captivity, as well as for her reporting on the road-side efforts to save a local fire chief’s life during a cardiac arrest. Her coverage of the 2015 massive search for two escaped inmates in Upstate NY earned her two New York Regional Emmy Award nominations. The Associated Press also recognized her during her time at WCYB for her reporting on tornados that hit the Tri-Cities in 2014.

Education

Callan grew up in Upstate New York, not far from the capital city Albany. Callan graduated magma cum laude from Syracuse University where she earned dual degrees in Broadcast Journalism and Earth Science. She also minored in Music Industry.

Personal interests

Callan loves getting out to explore all the Twin Cities has to offer with her husband and son. In her spare time, she enjoys visiting the many beautiful state and local parks in Minnesota, downhill skiing and doing yoga and running.
